Fishing

Many fishing opportunities await anglers of all ages and experience levels! Fishing in the Ohio River requires an Indiana or Kentucky license. Fishing in Cane Run or other streams that feed into the river require an Indiana fishing license. Bow fishing is illegal at the Falls of the Ohio due to federal laws for the National Wildlife Conservation Area that encompasses the river here. Keeping paddlefish that you catch is also illegal.

Where can I fish?

Shoreline, river (small boats only), and the boat ramp at the George Rogers Clark home site. Is the water level right to fish? That questions depends on what you’re fishing for! Want to see the Falls before you come? Check out our 24/7 webcam to see if the water is right for you!

Where can I park?

  • Lot behind the interpretive Center ($2 pay-to-park applies unless you have an Indiana State Parks pass, a dash placard is available from the admissions desk during regular business hours).
  • By the railroad bridge (access river by the McAlpine Dam), roadside parking in Ashland Park.
  • George Rogers Clark boat ramp – lot off Harrison Avenue. It is illegal to park on the boat ramp or to block the gate when open or closed.
    • The Falls of the Ohio boat ramp adjacent to the George Rogers Clark Site in Clarksville is CLOSED due to damage from moving high water. There is a ramp at 100-598 Water Street in New Albany, IN for those who want to launch below the Falls. For those who want to launch above Louisville and the Falls, the ramp inside Charlestown State Park is open. Please check back for updates.
